Beautifully written, "The German Girl", will do more than simply fill in the gaps in history, it will challenge the current generation with a warning against repeating the mistakes of the past. With the exception of the last part I was thoroughly engaged throughout. With a heavy heart I was irrevocably drawn into Hannah's tale which clearly strives to breathe new life into an old story. While she eventually hopes for a life of peace in New York, a violent political storm is brewing a storm which threatens everything she holds dear. Her family, enduring the persecution of the Nazi regime make plans to leave their salvation aboard the mercy ship the St Louis and the island of Cuba.

Written in sensitive prose Correa has woven a haunting tale spanning nearly 80 years and two continents, When we first meet Hannah it is 1939 and she is a 12 year old Jewish girl living in Berlin. Although, if I am totally honest, there will probably always be a need for this book. As it stands I don't believe that there has never been a better time for the release of this book. It is a wonderful story that, written about events of the past, can cause those living in the present to deeply reflect upon the circumstances of the day.
